CRAB FEST 2009

What a week it was ! I felt like I had been on an emotional roller coaster all week and then fell from the top of a Ferris Wheel upon hearing of McNair's death on Saturday. A month of NO rain and two weeks of above 100 degree temps, I needed to get away. Sunday, we drove down to Bay St. Louis on the Mississippi Gulf Coast( 75 miles) for Crab Fest 2009. A partly cloudy day of 97 degrees, hey, cool compared to 105 the day before. Crab Fest is an annual festival held each year on the 4th of July weekend sponsored by Our Lady of The Gulf Catholic Church.

The Crab Shack is where seafood of all kinds can be purchased..................
I had a bowl of Gumbo, Hubby ate a Soft Shell Crab Po Boy

But first.....I want to talk about Monday morning! Is that a rain cloud ??

YES INDEED ! It's raining at Swiftwater Farm!

That is me, in the rain, thanking God for an answered prayer for this much needed rain!
It was cool all day, a high of 75 , we got 1 inch of rain, I kept the windows and doors open with the ceiling fans on and gave the AC unit a needed break!

Our Lady of The Gulf Church sits on the Bay of St. Louis/ Gulf of Mexico

Surrounded by 300 year old live oak trees.....

Heavily damaged in hurricane Katrina, it has been totally restored

This statue withstood the forces of Katrina......

Just looking at the water, made me feel cooler

It is a very serene and beautiful setting

I took these as we left

People with boats enjoying the water

I thought this tree was so magnificent despite having endured three centuries of hurricanes

A huge crowd turned out despite the heat to enjoy the fest

Held under the many oaks

Children enjoyed the many rides

There were a number of booths of crafters selling their goods

It was so hot, I didn't look as much as I wanted

I did alot of people watching

The live band was really awesome! Playing mostly 60s music which took us back!
It was all I could do to sit still, others couldn't and danced away!

Hubby said I should do the slide! NOT!

These ceramic animals were really eye catchers............

I was tempted by the Ferris Wheel thinking it might be cool up high, but stayed strong with common sense!

These dishes were really pretty

I tried my best to get Hubby on this, he was not about to get on it!

I thought the birdhouses were great

I did come close to getting one of these, didn't know where I'd hang it though, so I passed

Crab do rule!

There are a couple of things I regret not buying and this is one...

Here's the other......

Hubby checks outs the knives on display

I checked out this cute apron

But purchased this which was more my style! I'll wear this in the garden...

Now to the "big boys" Hoss and Duke! They opened their eyes yesterday!

They need to be on a diet, I'm not kidding!

Jake has always like to sleep flat of his back, so do these big boys! Hoss is a doublewide!

So is Duke!
