" Plans "

My plan was to have the GWTW Room done by today so I could give you a Grand Tour. Well, things didn't work out. I have a beautiful artist print that is going above the bed that needed framing. Actually, I have a lot of artwork that needs framing. I was NOT willing to pay the ridiculous price the frame shops quoted me. So, I went on the hunt for frames. You've heard me talk before about Hudson's Treasure Hunt Stores and their sister store Dirt Cheap. Hubby and I visited Dirt Cheap a couple of weeks ago and found a few great deals on some frames. I bought three. One for the GWTW print, one for the Windsor print he got me for Christmas and the one you see below. The frame below had the glass intact but had two corners coming apart. It was originally marked $40.00 retail and was marked down to 5.99. I bought it, cleaned it up and used wood glue on the corners. The print is one I bought at Sally's in the French Quarter a few years ago of Orleans Street facing St. Anne's Cathedral in Jackson Square. On the left is Bourbon Orleans Hotel where we were staying and on the right is one of my favorite book stores Arcadian Books. The sconces are recent EBay purchases. The votive's have Angels carved in the glass. so Wa La, I have a new wall to look at in the living room. The other frames are large and gorgeous.
I would show pictures of them but they are in my car trunk left there after taking them to a glass place Friday to get glass cut to fit them. Now the great part about these frames is ,they came out of the Beau Rivage Casino on the coast after Katrina hit. The frames we not hurt but were missing the glass and prints that were in them. I nearly fainted when I saw the prices that Beau Rivage had paid for them on the back. I got both frames for $ 40.00! The glass for the 2 cost me $27.00. Now all they need is the matting and I'm taking them Monday to Hobby lobby for that.

Now, back to the room. This poster I ordered just came yesterday and I need to get a poster frame tomorrow for it.............
All these 8x10 photos are going to be mounted..............

On this satin covered board I made from Styrofoam board and part of the fitted sheet I had left from the set. We got a piece of Plexiglas cut for it and Hubby is going to frame it in on the wall.

I finally got my scarves on Friday also. So I'm going to give you a few glimpse's of some finished corners. This the chest of drawers..............

Here you see photos of Melanie Wilkes and Belle Whatling with their globed figurines on shelves.
Photos of Scarlett and the collectible GWTW Houses, Tara, Tara Carriage House, Twelve Oaks, Butler Mansion in Atlanta, Wilkes House in Atlanta on the table.

I have to tell you about this old lamp! I was saying to Hubby that I didn't like the lamp I already had in the room. He says to me that there is a very old lamp in the attic that he got about 30 years ago when he was helping a friend move that the guy was going to throw away! It had belonged to the guy's Grandmother but didn't work so he didn't want it. He said he thought it had a hand painted Magnolia on it. He went up and got it and brought it down. WOW! It wasn't a Magnolia, it was a Hibiscus and it was gorgeous ! I cleaned it up, painted the base and he went to Walmart and got a rewire kit. The shade was a new shade I picked up for $1.00 when we went to that 7 mile yard sale in Lafayette, Louisiana awhile back. I glued gold ribbon around the edges. There is less than $ 10.00 in this gorgeous old lamp! :)

The dresser is now ready for a Southern Belle to make herself beautiful. Her jewels, hair accessories, hatpins, perfume and lipstick are waiting..............

I love looking at this dresser......................

This series of collector plates are called " Dressing A Legend "

I have to tell you the bed and the wall above it are breath taking but I want the picture up before you see it.............. :)
I really can't wait till you see it and tell me what you think!!
I did a post today also on THE BOOK HOUSE BLOG about some new authors and books I discovered this week! I hope you visit and check it out!!! :)

" Walking In High Cotton "

Two very talented women authors I count as my friends have started off 2010 with a Bang! They are as we say in the South.......
" WALKING IN HIGH COTTON "

Let's start with Carolyn Haines whose "Bones " series is a favorite of mystery readers everywhere.

Last year we celebrated Carolyn winning the 2009 Richard Wright Award for Literary Excellence at the Natchez Literary & Cinema Festival .......

On April 30, 2010 she will join the elite group of 12 other authors who have been the recipient of The Harper Lee Literary of Excellence Award at the Monroeville, Alabama Literary Festival!!! Can you say WOW? Carolyn says "To Kill A Mockingbird" was a very influential book in her life and she is a devout fan of Harper Lee. To win this award has to be " as good as it gets" for her! I'll guess that the mystery writer in her LOVES being the 13 th recipient !!!! Last year my buddy Rick Bragg won it! Besides her wonderful Bones series, she has written many great novels. These three are some of my favorites.............

"Greedy Bones" is the latest release in the series with "Bone Appetit" coming soon !

Congratulations Carolyn, I'm so happy for you sweetie !!! I also want to tell you that Carolyn is a die hard advocate of Animal Rescue and practices what she preaches! Please visit this site and do all you can to help this wonderful organization of hers........ Good Fortune Farm Refuge

And then there's Kathryn ! Kathryn Stockett who humbly admits she never thought anyone would read her wonderful novel " THE HELP ". After being on The New York Times Bestseller list for 41 weeks( it debut at # 22 its first week out and has been in the top ten for 35 weeks)
it reached # 1 last week and has remained there this week!! I LOVE being able to tell her that I told her after reading the ARC that she had a # 1 Bestseller !!!

Many of you have taken my advice and read this book.........if you haven't you really are missing out on a wonderful read! IT IS MY FAVORITE BOOK of 2009 and will be @ the top of my list for ALL TIME FAVORITE reads!

I hope to have a Grand Tour of the GWTW Room for you this weekend! XOXO

Santa's Prayer

The sleigh was all packed, the reindeer were fed,

But Santa still knelt by the side of the bed.

"Dear Father," he prayed "Be with me tonight.
There's much work to do and my schedule is tight.

I must jump in my sleigh and streak through the sky,
Knowing full well that a reindeer can't fly.

I will visit each household before the first light,
I'll cover the world and all in one night.

With sleigh bells a-ringing, I'll land on each roof,
Amid the soft clatter of each little hoof.

To get in the house is the difficult part,
So I'll slide down the chimney of each child's heart.

My sack will hold toys to grant all their wishes.
The supply will be endless like the loaves and the fishes.

I will fill all the stockings and not leave a track.
I'll eat every cookie that is left for my snack.

I can do all these things Lord, only through You,
I just need your blessing, then it's easy to do.

All this is to honor the birth of the One,
That was sent to redeem us, Your most Holy Son.

So to all of my friends, least Your glory I rob,
Please Lord, remind them who gave me this job."

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

If you watch the news, read a newspaper or surf the web, you have heard my town Hattiesburg, Mississippi mentioned this week..........we are in The Spotlight............

ONE REASON......... The NFC Championship Game being played this Sunday 90 miles South in New Orleans between The New Orleans Saints and The Minnesota Vikings. Now you say:
What does that have to do with Hattiesburg? Well, 98% of football fans here are Saints fans because Mississippi does not have an NFL Team. After all these years this is the very first time The Saints have played in a championship game much less had a chance to go to the Super Bowl!

However...Vikings QB Brett Favre lives here and was the star QB of University of Southern Mississippi's 's Golden Eagles here. He is beloved by everyone here! So the football fans in Hattiesburg are as the saying goes; "between a rock and a hard place" when it comes to this game. WHO do we cheer for? They ran a poll on our local TV station and it's pretty divided.
Those interviewed are saying the same thing Hubby and I discussed; We will cheer for both and may the best team win................:)

That scenario has us in the local spotlight but it's the problems of this guy that has trust us into the international spotlight........

Little did we know that a famous sex addiction therapist was practicing here at Pine Grove Behavioral Clinic and yes, Tiger is here in therapy with him.
The clinic is having to build a higher fence to keep the paparazzi at bay.......

Owners of businesses located around the facility have been offered enormous sums of money to let them get up on their rooftops..........

Every news media from around the world is camped out here! Even The National Enquirer!

Now my question is, Why does the world care about the personal problems of Tiger Woods?
I think they should let the guy alone! He's trying to get help for a problem that caused eminence suffering for him and his family. He did NOTHING to us! His sex life is NONE of our business!
It does not affect his athletic ability. Why does the media LOVE to build up celebrities and REVEL in tearing them down? I will never understand this! My prayers are with this man and his family that he will be helped and be able to be a good father to his two beautiful children. He is a very talented man who has much to offer society if we allow him to handle his problems in private.
That's my opinion !
Have a great weekend everyone!! :)

Sew What's New?

New Spring and Summer Bags have arrived to my etsy shop! Welcome bright and vibrant colors with 4-5 coordianting fabrics in every bag! Along with Minnie Mouse and a lot of good cheer and FUN!

Cheers to all of you who visit my shop, send words of encouragement, and own one of my handmade bags! It's the wonderful feedback and smiles that keeps the sewing machine running strong!
I have really enjoyed etsy. It allows me the freedom of creative expression, but most of all I can work around my kids schedules! I do have more time to create now that my last one of six is in school. I have stayed at home with my children and feel blessed that I have been able to do that. It is a new season for me with mixed emotions of missing my little ones under my feet.
It took me a long time to get use to a quiet home for three hours. I didn't know if I would be able to focus, which sounds strange- I know.
I started doing etsy just for fun, mostly to see where it leads. I have loved creating for you and meeting all of you! It has led me to a strong desire to design more creations and pursue other adventures, which I am working on! Thank you! Stay tuned for more creations coming soon!
Have a happy creative day! Make your Monday HERE!
